Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation celebrated 7 June 2022 World Food Safety Day ​

Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation (BFSF), Bangladesh Supermarket Owners Association (BSOA), and Sabuj Somaj Unnayon Sanstha (SSUS) observed World Food Safety Day 2022. The day was observed using a virtual platform due to the threat of COVID-19. A virtual seminar was held on 7 June 2022 at 7.30 pm (Asthana). Two papers were presented in the seminar. One on “Food Safety Solution: Bangladesh and Global context” presented by Dr. Muftikhar Ahmed, an international food safety consultant. The other one was on “State of Food Safety System in Bangladesh: Is It in the Right Direction” by Mr. Mustak Hassan Md. Iftekhar, founding Chairman, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority. Dr. Hamidur Rahman, Member, of Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation and the former Director General, Directorate of Agriculture Extension chaired the seminar. The seminar was facilitated by Dr. Iqbal Rouf Mamun, Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Dhaka. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Malek, Professor, Department of Microbiology and Director, Centre for Advanced Research and Studies, University of Dhaka. Engr. Mohammad Liaquat Ali, Founding Director General, Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB), and Ms. Yeasmin Akhtar, Business Manager (Knowledge, Health & Nutrition), SGS Bangladesh Limited.

Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation undertook following activities apart from the webinar: 

  1. Distribution of communication materials viz., customized e-poster following UN e-poster (annex- ‘A’) and e-flayer containing theme, slogan and key messages (annex- ‘B’) through e-mail to food businesses (380) & their associations, apex chamber bodies, district chamber bodies and its members (99), INGOs/NGOs (362), print & electronic media (116), diplomatic missions and international organisations (104) in Bangladesh. 
  2. Distribution of UN communication materials through e-mail to food businesses (380) & their associations, apex chamber bodies, district chamber bodies and its members (99), INGOs/NGOs (362), print & electronic media (116), diplomatic missions and international organisations (104) in Bangladesh conveying the UN request to observe the day. 
  3. Informed about our programme on WFSD observance with an invitation to join the webinar through e-mail to Diplomatic Missions (53) in Bangladesh and International organisations (51) in Bangladesh.  
  4. Uploaded UN WFSD 2022 communication materials onto BFSF’s website.
  5. Both the UN e-poster, customized e-poster and e-flayer were uploaded onto a few professional associations’ facebook pages.
