Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation would like to share the social responsibility to support food business operators that would ultimately ensure safe food for consumers in home and abroad. We would like to support government food control agencies as and when required. On the top of it, we believe in partnership building with relevant stakeholders and agencies in home and abroad and effective cooperation among them. The Foundation has a pool of resources who has proven competency to working in food supply chain from farm to table. With the increased capacity, BFSF would provide following services.

  • Identification of health risk exposures and related activities due to food consumption.
  • Undertake risk assessment using valid methods and support risk-based decision-making and high-quality policy. 
  • Identify emerging risks and threats to the food chain.  
  • Support and capacity development to FBOs to respond effectively to any food incident or crisis.
  • Provide technical support to FBOs on ‘recall’ procedure when they find food as substandard, risky and poisonous.
  • Providing support to the organisations/FBOs in preparation of SOPs and Guidelines necessary for safe food.
  • Providing support to the FBOs in implementing standard ‘Good Practices’, ‘Hazard Analysis’, ‘Residue Control System’ ‘Safety Audit System’ etc. necessary for safe food. 
  • Support government and agencies in scientifically defining foods from plants, animals and other major sources and in updating quality parameters.  
  • Technical support to FBOs on implementing official food control system at all stages. 
  • Provide support to the FBOs in adapting permissible limit for use of contaminants, microbial contaminants, fertilizer, residue of insecticides and pesticides, residue of veterinary and fishery drugs, heavy metals, processing aids, additives or preservatives, mycotoxin, antibiotics, medicine related active substances and growth promoters in the food product as determined. 
  • Providing technical support for introduction of ‘blockchain’ and ‘traceability’ for accessibility, trustworthy information about origin, journey and impact of the food/food ingredients and thus to ensure food safety and source identification.
  • Influence the development of food standards and its enforcement approaches at national levels and its adaptation by the FBOs. 
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to foster and promote a culture of standard and compliance in food industry.
  • Provide necessary support to certification bodies and FBOs in implementing accreditation policies as set by the government. 
  • Provide technical support to FBOs to adapt prescribed procedure relating to labeling, packaging and expressing claims on health, nutrition, special dietary uses and categorization of packaged food.
  • Support government and agencies in updating and upgrading the food standards and or guidelines. 
  • Provide necessary support to the food testing laboratories in adapting prescribed testing procedures and procedural guidelines for accreditation as set by the government.

EVENT

Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation observed 2 February 2023 National Food Safety Day

On 3rd March 2023, a significant event took place in Bangladesh as the Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation organized a round table discussion on the crucial topic of "Food Safety Culture and Practice." The event was held in the prestigious AKM Gias Uddin Milky Auditorium, located in Khamarbari, Farmgate, Dhaka.

Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation celebrated 7 June 2022 World Food Safety Day

Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation (BFSF), Bangladesh Supermarket Owners Association (BSOA) and Sabuj Somaj Unnayon Sanstha (SSUS) observed the World Food Safety Day 2022. The day was observed using a virtual platform due to the threat of COVID-19. A virtual seminar was held on 7 June 2022.

Muhammad Liaquat Ali, Founding Director General, Bangladesh Accreditation Board.
